Poll: most wanted feature

I am currently thinking about what to do next with LittleKnitter. I have a couple of ideas but I would like to know which features people actually *want*. Thus, if you want to influence the development of LittleKnitter please vote below. I will monitor the results over the next two weeks and then start working on whatever it is that most people voted for. If all goes well the next release should be out before Christmas :-).

I’ve found when I have a larger chart (e.g. I have one with a 41 stitch repeat) I can’t see the right part of the chart in the knit view. It’d be great to be able to slide the knit view right/left and up/down.

    Definitely the following:
    1. SD card portability;
    2. Ability to enter characters into chart more easily, &
    3. Knitting font.

    Thx!

how about a program to document the good ole yarn stash? one that hooks up with
the needle program and the project program would be great. let me know if I
    can help.
    Thanks,
    Mary

I really REALLY wish that I could input the pattern on my desktop, where it would be easier to design, and then have my pattern sync’d to my phone. I do a lot of lace. Sometimes I merge three or more lace patterns together to create something entirely different which takes so much focus that on my phone, I just can’t manage it.

Also, since I don’t like to carry my library books etc with lace patterns all around, where ever I go, I tend to transpose, or take a photo of the pattern in the book. My deepest wish in your software is to be able to do the work on my desktop, sync to my phone, and then keep track of where I have left off in my pattern on LittleKnitter on my phone.

I’m still trying to find other stitches besides knit and purl. I guess I still have to study and learn the software better.

Thank you for being so generous as to produce software, available to all. If the software could manage my requests, I would gladly pay some small fee. There is a great void for software that is affordable for those who design knits as a hobby.

I am almost certainly not going to produce a desktop-version of LittleKnitter (since that would essentially mean rewriting it from scratch), however the ability to import patterns from a file is definitely on my list. I’m currently in the last throes of my PhD thesis, therefore I have very little time, but as soon as that is done I plan on releasing the next version of LittleKnitter with background picture, redesigned UI and pattern inport.
One more thing – if you just need a bigger screen, you could of course get an android tablet (such as the galaxy tab or the xoom). LittleKnitter should run perfectly fine on those.

Knit mode will not allow me to start at the bottom or knit right to left. Also, I cannot see any part of the pattern except the uppermost left corner in knit mode. How do I access the rest of the pattern?

Normally I design my charts at: http://jacquie.typepad.com/Charts/knitChart.htm
I then take a screenshot of just the chart and save it as a jpeg and send that to my phone. Then I can pull it up on my phone, zoom in, move it around, etc. It works great, but I thought it might be nice to have a program where I can keep track of where I am at in my chart.

I’ve been playing with Little Knitter and it’s nice, but I keep wishing it had these features:

Undo – When in design mode, if I accidentally place a symbol over the top of another symbol I’ve already placed. It would be nice to have an undo button so I could toggle it back to what it was instead of having to retype the symbol into the designer to fix the mistake.

Select, Copy, Cut, Paste – In complicated lace patterns, there are sections that often repeat, but not over the whole piece. It would be nice to be able to design a section, copy it and paste it in other places.

0 axis at bottom right corner – Most knitting charts are read from the bottom right corner, right to left and then from bottom to top. It would be nice if the 0 axis was at the bottom right corner instead of the top left corner, so we can keep better track of what row and what stitch we are working on. I have a row marker I put on my knitting and it would be nice to pick up my knitting, look at the row marker, and then find my place on the chart by coordinating row number.

Zoom,Highlight – In knitting mode, it would be really nice if we could zoom in and even highlight the row on the chart we are currently working on and then be able to move the chart around a lot easier on the screen.

Thank you so much for working on this!
